Project Description
Aguaseka (“Dry water”) is a Latin alternative rock group born on early 2011. A group of six strangers met on Facebook, searching for fellow musicians wanting to compete in a island-wide rock scene competition. Rising to the occasion, the group met and produced their first single “Yo Quiero” (I Want), expressing a burning desire to create music that was different. After winning the national competition, the group continued to play in sponsored events throughout the island, touring in Dominican Republic a year after. The groups name encompasses the antithesis of the group’s compositions, ranging from Ska, Reggae, Pop Rock, and power ballads to straight out of the garage old school rock and roll.
On 2013, Aguaseka recorded their first album, titled “Gente Illógica” (Illogical People), perfectly capturing their versatile style into a blend of sounds filled with socially conscious lyrics. Songs like "Gente Ilógica", "Otro día mas", and "La China" highlight several social aspects of Puerto Rico in funk, rock, and reggae respectively. The social undertones in the aforementioned tunes oppose the power ballads full of emotion portrayed in "Llamas del Pasado", "Dictadura", and "Puedo", staying true to the contradiction expressed in the group's name.
